4 Things You Have to do to Get on Google (Lawn Care SEO)

Posted on 05. Jul, 2010 by Dave.

The Internet is free source of news and opinions. This is a wonderful thing from a buyer and shopper point of view but, for the average lawn care business, so much information in such variety of media equals lots of competition. Things that were heavily relied upon in the past for Ranking, such as meta tag keyword and description information are being deprecated and may not always prove so fruitful. Nowadays, technology is diving distribution and forcing the search engines landscape to evolve more quickly. So in this article we will talk about the first 4 things you have to do to create a Google-friendly site.

Give your customers the information they’re looking for
Provide high-quality content on your pages, especially your homepage. This is the single most important thing to do. If your pages contain useful information, their content will attract many visitors and entice webmasters to link to your site.

Make sure that other sites link to yours
Links help Google find your site and can give your site greater visibility in Google’s search results. Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote by page A for page B. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important.”

Keep in mind that Google’s algorithms can distinguish natural links from unnatural links. Natural links to your site develop as part of the dynamic nature of the web when other sites find your content valuable and think it would be helpful for their visitors. Unnatural links to your site are placed there specifically to make your site look more popular to search engines. Some of these types of links (such as link schemes and doorway pages) are covered in Google’s webmaster guidelines.

Only natural links are useful for the indexing and ranking of your site.

Make your site easily accessible
Build your site with a logical link structure. Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link.

If features such as JavaScript, cookies, session IDs, frames, DHTML, or Macromedia Flash keep you from seeing your entire site in a text browser, then spiders may have trouble crawling it.

Things to avoid

Don’t fill your page with lists of keywords, attempt to “cloak” pages, or put up “crawler only” pages. If your site contains pages, links, or text that you don’t intend visitors to see, Google considers those links and pages deceptive and may ignore your site.

Don’t use images to display important names, content, or links. Google does not recognize text contained in graphics. Use ALT attributes if the main content and keywords on your page can’t be formatted in regular HTML.

Don’t create multiple copies of a page under different URLs.

A few simple changes can go a long way toward creating a Google-friendly site. Experiment with the above dos and turn more of your visitors into lawn care customers. I should say if you feel difficulties in designing/optimize your site, or if you have any questions, concerns feel free to contact us. Foamers will easily and skillfully do all the necessary changes for you. We bring over 9 years of experience and we work hard on the modifications for your complete satisfaction. 5 Design Elements That Can Boost Your Lawn Business

Posted on 30. Jun, 2010 by Dave.

Website design does matter. Even seemingly small design elements can affect your sales – one way or another. Many new lawn care business don’t think of this so I thought it would be nice to share with you five design “dos” that can have a positive impact.

1. Do make calls-to-action obvious. Make your phone email link/phone number easy to find on a page. Use contrasting and/or bold colors to call attention to CTAs, which allows them to stand apart from other elements and get noticed.

2. Do use an action color for buttons. People respond differently to different colors. Cool colors like blue and green have a calming effect. Warm colors like red and orange inspire passion and impulsive actions. Using red (or other warm colors) for your “Contact us/ quote ” buttons will help increase clicks on those buttons.

3. Do use the principle of proximity to group related items. The principle of proximity calls for related items to be grouped visually, creating less clutter and making for a more organized layout. Items unrelated to each other should be placed further apart, to emphasize their lack of relationship.

4. Do use bold and subtle colors to tell your user where to look. Big vs little, if there is a big arrow pointing at something, guess where people are going to look. Subtle changes in contrast and the like can also help direct the eye.

5. Do use whitespace. Allow your design to breathe. Whitespace helps elements on a page get noticed, communicated the desire action to users. Whitespace also improves usability, is aesthetically pleasing, and increases comprehension.

A few simple changes can go a long way toward helping increase sales on your site. Experiment with the above dos and turn more of your visitors into lawn care customers. I should say if you feel difficulties in designing your own website, or if you have any questions, concerns feel free to contact us. Foamers will easily and skillfully do all the necessary changes for you. We bring over 9 years of experience in the custom web design/template customization field. Posted on 23. Jun, 2010 by Dave.

Everyone procrastinates at some time in his or her life. As a self-employed web developer, I am certainly guilty as charged. That’s is why in this article I want to show you two things that have helped me, and give you some more incentives to get your business online right now!

A – Complex projects often seem daunting and cause many people to procrastinate. When faced with a project that seems overwhelming in its complexity it is advisable to break the project down into smaller components and tackle each component individually.

For example – if you need to redesign your website, but you don’t know where to start?

Start by taking a good hard look at your website and ask yourself these two questions.

How is my brand perceived as opposed to my competitors?

How is my website doing in terms of aesthetics and functionality?

If it’s not doing a good job, don’t just let it sit there, fix it fast!

B – The inability to make decisions also contributes to procrastination. Many people simply spend too much time trying to make decisions about their website. While it is important to weigh your options carefully and make informed decisions, too much time spent wastefully trying to make a decision can cause a significant delay for a project.

To avoid this potential problem, chat with a template customization specialist – not only are we able to help you design your brand identity, but we can also help you choose a template with a cohesive look and feel that’s right for you. We can design it from scratch or customize any template.

Yes friends Summer is here, and if you are still procrastinating about your website – this is your wake up call!

Right now, order customization and pay NOTHING for the template, PLUS another 25% off on all template customization.

This is a limited time offer so don’t delay!

Every day that goes by is another day of an under performing site.

Posted on 16. Jun, 2010 by Dave.

The idea of a Weekly Editors Pick Twitter Contest came up in May when the yet to be unveiled site redesign was being done. It was getting to the point where many cool looking templates were being overlooked—great templates that we put back up three, maybe four months ago. I was worried that these templates would be lost amid the sea of daily new favorites.

Thus, the Weekly Editors Pick idea emerged. In fact, we decided why not hop on the twitter bandwagon, make this a twitter contest too and give each participant a 20% promo code for any Foamers order. Besides that, all participants would be instantly eligible for an additional 25% discount on template customization.

So, from now on, each week, we will comb through the site, pick out a couple of templates, and mark them with the prestigious “Editors Pick.” And we want you to help us choose the best!

Contest entry is free of charge, you don’t need an invitation (as if!). All you need to do is follow the instructions below:

Now let’s get to the nominees:

CSS Full Site Flash 8

CSS Full Site Flash 8

Xml FLash Site

CSS Static Full Site

How to Enter

To get the 20% promo code and the additional 25% discount on template customization, all you have to do is choose your favorite template, follow us on Twitter, and press on the “I like It!” button. This will take you to twitter to tweet a pre-formatted message. By default, each tweet will include the “#webtemplates” hashtag, the “@foamersdotnet” in-reply-to mark as well as the shortened template link.

As a side note, it is important that you DO NOT EDIT any of the tags in order for us to be able to count your vote and define the winning template.

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BEFORE JUNE 22 2010.

PROMO CODES WILL BE DELIVERED VIA TWITTER DIRECT MESSAGE WITH IN 72 HOURS AFTER THE VOTE.

Getting New Customers For Nothing – Part 2

Posted on 04. May, 2010 by Dave.

The best way to get more lawn care customers to your website is by getting to know your audience. How? By providing some interaction or means of communication (that is one reason why social sites like facebook, which will allow you to comment and share thoughts and opinions, are increasingly popular) in other words, find a way to open a dialog. The possibilities are endless, for example, you could start a lawn discussion groups where a customer can ask your knowledgeable staff anything and everything to help with their lawn.

Good communication is a two way conversation. So whether you are a large corporation or a small lawn business you need to listen to your customers and even to prospects, this will enabling you to not only better market your brand, but it will also provide you with the right feedback to help make more informed decisions concerning your lawn business.

Don’t offer cheap gimmicks or resorts to questionable ethics that may later tarnish your business reputation – here is one company offering to mow your lawn dressed in bikinis

lets hope they don’t do a man version.. that’s just wrong.

One way to ad all the elements I just mentioned, is to use a blog as your lawn care website. One might think that the lawn care service industry does not fall under this heading, largely due to a misconception of what a blog should be, but don’t think of it as a blog, think of it as a CMS (content management system). Generally speaking, a blog is nothing more than a website, with regular pages, links, portfolio etc.

In reality a blogging platform is the ideal way to easily install and start your website right away..

Here are some examples non-blogging sites using WordPress, WordPress is the CMS I use, and recommend my client to use, to establish and grow their online business.

Make Me A Website – Flash VS HTML, Which One Would You Choose?

Posted on 30. Apr, 2010 by Dave.

What is the appeal with Flash? I understand that Flash is very pretty and we want the website to be eye catching, but in order to let Google know what the website is about your going to have to do it in HTML. This is the one thing that I always let my clients know, specially in lawn care marketing, websites that are pure Flash have a very tough time being indexed in Google. All search engines in general have a very hard time reading Flash files, so though at first it may appear that Flash might get the job done, the truth is that Flash may be pretty on the outside but ugly on the inside.

So before you decide what to use for your lawn care website ask yourself, why not HTML? HTML is cross browser compatible, doesn’t require a plug-in and loads faster. From a usability standpoint having a good website is all about giving users what they want in as minimal amount a time as possible. But even before that can happen, you have to make sure people can actually find your website. In other words why would you want to use something that makes it virtually impossible for Google to find your website?

Flash may be great for huge players like Wlat Disney, or Sesame street, but when it comes right down to ranking quickly and getting your phone to ring, I really have to say, enough with the flash already!!!

Love to hear what you think, leave me your comments or question bellow…

The Most Aesthetically Challenged Lawn Care Websites Ever!

Posted on 14. Apr, 2010 by Dave.

I have put together a small list of sites in desperate need of a redesign! I’m not in anyway saying that this is a reflection on how they do business, nevertheless first impressions are lasting impressions. When a new visitor comes to your website an initial impression will be formed pretty quickly, and a bad first impression will drastically decrease your chances at getting that phone to ring.

This list looks at 6 examples of some really bad impressions.

This one has do it yourself written all over it..

love the borders guys very 1991-1995ish – white, yellow, green and red font nice touch..

Had to search really hard to find this one cause the page titles show up as Home, Home, Home on every page in the browser bar – guess its true what they say “where ever you go, there you are“.

Nice!

oh, it gets worse!

Saved the best for last.

Read the footer, I’ll bet Homestead ’s made a million of these babies. 121 hits since 2008! Great job Rob!!!

A lot of people make a lot of money in this business selling tools that sound good but don’t actually work.

You have built your lawn care business on word of mouth and worked tirelessly to foster long-term customer relationships.

Don’t blow It!

Every day that goes by is another day of an under performing site.

So You Think You’re A Web Designer..

Posted on 14. Apr, 2010 by Dave.

0

That is the questions Homestead-design-seo.com asks. Is it ethical to pass yourself off as a web designer, when in fact your using Intuit’s Homestead software to cut paste. Personally I would say there’s nothing wrong with using the software within of itself, but just because anyone can make a website doesn’t mean everyone should.

Unfortunately because it is much easier to want to believe that it is that simple to make a successful website, many unsuspecting clients do fall pray to these guys.

However these wannabe web designers aren’t the only ones to blame, the majority of their client base are pretty wishy-washy too – cheep always looking to get something for nothing.

I’m talking about small business owners who will rent expensive equipment, spend hundreds of dollars advertising on Yellow pages, and then hire an amature to do their website, or what’s worse, try to do it themselves.

“Do yourself – a HUGE favor. Do something else until you learn the right way to design sites. Otherwise you are doing the client a disservice and contributing to the bad name that website designers have gotten because of the amateurish attempts of many.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself!!!

Having the ability to easily make sites with ready made website templates is not a bad thing within of itself, and whats more, using something like Intuit’s Homestead software, as a learning tool, might make sense if you’re just starting out. I remember getting my first taste of HTML in the 90s on some AOL website builder. Ultimately this sparked a real interest for web design and web applications and lead me to pursue some higher learning and a career in web design.

Nevertheless, its not for everyone.

If your getting ready to get a website or if you already have a website, but it doesn’t seem to be bringing you any work, taken a good hard look at your website and asked yourself these two questions.

How is my brand perceived as opposed to my competitors?

How is my website doing in terms of SEO, aesthetics and usability?

If it’s not doing a good job, fix it fast!

For you, good branding and a strong presence are huge!

Every day that goes by is another day of an under performing site.

3 Resources To Organize And Easily Email Your Leads For Free

Posted on 12. Apr, 2010 by Dave.

0

There is no doubt, being able to follow up with your prospects & customers is the single most important marketing tool you absolutely need to have in order to continue to grow and sustain your business.

To do that, and be affective at it, you need some sort of tool that allows you to organize and easily email your leads – where’s once text-based emails where consider the norm, and perhaps to this day you are still doing your marketing with basic text emails, there’s now a wealth of rich media, technology and functionality to consider.

One solution, which is what I use and recommend all my clients to use, is the help of something like MailChimp, CakeMail and PHPList, these tools really make it easy to send and manage your HTML messages. Phplist in particular is great because it has a built in WYSIWYG HTML editor that allows you to create and view your HTML message even before you send it out, plus it’s free! Other services such as MailChimp and the like, offer free newsletter templates you can edit.

Besides that, in our continuous effort to increase our level of service, Foamers now offers custom newsletter template design,(at just $249 a pop), in a number of custom styles…

In sum, them, while basic text email might be slightly less complicated to built, HTML formatted email can look just like a real web page, with everything from graphics to links, colorful fonts, interactive form, charts you name it. Combined, this allows you to follow-up and interact with your customer in a more professional and effective way.

The bottom line is that email marketing is one of the most powerful marketing tools available for developing relationships with your customers – finally, the other thing you need to remember is that most website visitors don’t become customers on the first visit, but if you can keep them interested and engaged, you have a better chance of winning their business in the future. When it’s done well and with your customers in mind, Email Marketing is a powerful tool.

Finally, follow these five fundamental elements when designing your newsletter template.

1 – Always use absolute URLS for your graphics (ie http://foamers.net/blogger/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/mailchmp.jpg )

2 – Do not save your images as attachments (nobody in their right mind will ever open some strange attachment,) but store them on your web server so that they may display properly in the email.

3 – Send it to yourself before sending it to your subscriber list. And if possible send it to a buddy who has a different email program than you, to be sure most of your subscribers can read it on their computers.

4 – Once your satisfied, save it as a template. Then you can just open the template whenever you want to send html mail and most of the work will be done for you.

5 – If you still feel uncomfortable around HTML I highly recommend that you go on a multimedia or web design course just to get a feel for the fundamentals – and to pick the brains of other Internet entrepreneurs, which is always useful. One way to learn from us right here is simply to subscribe to this feed.
